INSTRUCTIONS FOR OUR LOVE: TONGVA | 'EYOO'WIISHMEN 'AHOO'ECHON, 2024 (performance + film) Amber Stucke A vocal performance piece spoken in both English by Amber Stucke and Tongva by Citlali Arvizu to a coast like oak tree at Sage Hill Native Plants & Wildlife Habitat, University of California, Los Angeles, on Saturday, October 19, 2024 for the UCLA Art|Sci Center-Getty PST exhibition, "Atmosphere of Sound: Sonic Art in Times of Climate Disruption", co-curated by Victoria Vesna and Anuradha Vikram. The site is within the limits of the region of the Los Angeles Basin and Southern Channel Islands of California, where the Tongva Nation have been living for over 7,000 years. By honoring the oak tree with the Tongva language considered critically endangered, the vocal instructions intend to reconnect the sound of the language back to the land. A limited edition book with the translations goes in conjuction with the performance. 50% of each book sold benefits the non-profit organization Advocates for Indigenous California Language Survival (AICLS).
